13 Coolest Aftermarket Auto Accessories for Your Mustang

Whether you are installing some custom trim or tinting the windows, you can find all the coolest aftermarket auto accessories for a mustang here. Read on to learn more.

Keyword(s): aftermarket auto accessories

What's the first thing you do when you buy your new Mustang? If you're like us, you immediately start dreaming of how you are going to customize it. Thankfully, there is a $287 billion industry dedicated to the sale of aftermarket auto accessories.

Customizing your Mustang isn't all about increasing performance. There are plenty of other accessories that you can add to enhance the looks and comfort of your new car.

So which of these accessories will you add?

1. Exterior Graphics and Decals

Let's face it, having no graphics on your Mustang means you look like every other car on the road. So why not add those iconic double racing stripes? Depending on the color of your car you can pick either white or black.

If racing stripes aren't you're style, you could add a median strip. This stripe starts on the hood, continues to the roof and finishes on the trunk.

Then there are the stripes that extend down the side of your Mustang. These are a bit fancier with the streak finishing with the iconic pony symbol.

A popular choice for those who don't want any stripes is the Mustang steed decal. This giant decal has a mustang pony racing on the side of your car.

2. Replace Your Grille

Sure, the stock grille looks great, but that doesn't mean you can't switch it out for one of your own choices. You could add grille pillars to the front of your grille. These are painted to match the color of your car.

There are mesh grilles that will be a complete replacement of the stock grille. You can get these  in polished stainless steel, black or black chrome. The metal has a tight woven patterned look to it.

If you aren't a fan of grilles at all, you can go with a grille delete kit. You'll have the outer frame, but nothing in the middle leaving an open space. This will greatly increase the airflow into your engine bay.

3. A Spoiler to Complete the Look

This is one of those accessories that can go very wrong, very quick. The trick to adding a spoiler to your Mustang is to go with the adage "less is more."

Instead of opting for one of those large wings, look for a spoiler that subtly enhances the look for your car. You have a couple of different options when it comes to the actual details and shapes.

For a seamless look, opt for a spoiler that is painted the same color as your car. If you are looking to keep weight down, then I suggest going for a carbon fiber one.

4. Darker Window Tint

Most people immediately have their car windows tinted. This gives them privacy when in their car and helps to regulate the temperature.

The standard is to tint your windows a dark black color. But you also have the option of a brown shade or another color.

A word of warning when tinting your windows. Each state has laws about how dark you can legally tint your windows. Tint your windows too dark and you will have to answer to the cops.

While other accessories on this list can easily be done yourself, this project is best left to the professionals.

5. Custom Headlights and Taillights

Sure the stock lights look good, but why not switch them out for some custom ones? You can choose a solid black housing for a clean look or a polished metal housing for a flashier look.

Then you need to decide what type of headlights you want. Halogen lights are the most affordable but are not super bright.

HIDs are the brightest light options, but they may require a bit more work to install and can be expensive. LED lights are a new trend too, but owners find that they do not project as well as HIDs.

When picking out your lights don't forget to look at the accent lighting. Many headlight options today have HID or LED detailing.

While you are replacing the headlights, don't forget to replace your tail lights. That way your car has a uniform look from front to back.

6. Tint Your Mustang's Lights

A fashionable look in recent years is to tint, smoke, or "blackout" your lights. You can do this with the stock lights or any custom ones you buy.

Keep in mind that this mod may not be legal everywhere so check before you decide to do it. If you do choose to go through with it, practice restraint and don't go too dark with your tinting.

To tint your lights you could paint them. You'll need to be careful though because if you aren’t it won't come out even.

Another option is to buy aftermarket lights that have tinting already done to them. A final option is to buy tinted covers for your stock lights. These are plastic lenses that clip over your lights.

7. Old School Hood Pins

Back in the day, these accessories were necessary to keep the hood of the car in place. They were a common sight in sports cars.

Why not add some old school cool to your car with two hood pins. Look for ones that are made of stainless steel so they won't corrode. You'll also want the cable to be coated, so it doesn't scratch your paint.

Most kits won't require you to do any drilling as they affix to the hood as decoration. But if you plan on increasing the power and performance of your Mustang then you may want to install functional hood pins

8. Seat Covers

Protect your stock seats with some covers. This is more affordable than replacing the whole seats.

For a lux and classy look opt for leather covers. These will also be easy to wipe clean in the event of a spill.

You could also go for seat covers that match your car's color. These will usually be a two-tone option like black and red.

If you live in a colder climate, then you may want sheepskin covers. These covers will feel plush and warm when you sit on them.

9. Interior Trim Kits

When it comes to interior trim kits, the possibilities are endless. The first thing you need to do is decide on the color you want. You could choose a color that matches the color of your Mustang or a brushed metal look.

Once you have your color, you need to decide where you would like to place your trim. This is another one of those projects where less is more.

There are entire kits that come with pieces for your dash, speakers, and door sills. There are even trim pieces for the inside of your cupholders.

10. Floor Mats

Take out the stock floor mats and save them. That way you can put them back in the car for shows or when you go to sell your car one day.

You still need to protect your car's interior. In that instance, we suggest rubber mats. These provide good protection and are easy to clean.

Your other option is to pick out some custom carpeted ones. They could be plain or have embroidery detailing such as the Ford or Mustang logo.

11. Shift Knob and Start Button

How about changing out your start button to be red? This will replace the stock silver one with a button that has a distinctive look.

If you have a manual, you could change out the shift knob. While there are thousands of options, most people choose to get a shift knob that has a sporty look.

12. Engine Covers

Everyone focuses on making their engine more powerful. But what about making it look good too? When you lift your Mustang's hood, it should look impressive also.

Start by getting some rail covers that are either stainless steel or painted to match your car. Then get an airbox cover, radiator shroud, and coil cover.

While you are outfitting your engine bay, consider replacing the stock engine caps. You could get a complete set, so everything matches in brushed stainless steel with the Mustang logo etched into them.

13. Car Cover

Your car is your baby, and you do a lot of work to keep it looking great. So get a car cover to keep your Mustang clean while it is in the garage. A quality car cover will keep your car from getting accidentally scratched or dented.

Install Aftermarket Auto Accessories

So which one of these aftermarket auto accessories are you going to install on your Mustang? You could do them all, but that may eat up a large budget.

We suggest picking a few and starting there. Then select a few more and do those. Remember to choose what you like and what will look good together.
