7 Best Corvette Aftermarket Wheels: 2019 Buyers Guide

Looking for a sweet set of aftermarket wheels for your Corvette? Find out which aftermarket wheels rate the best under comparison. Read more here.

Keyword(s): corvette aftermarket wheels

Aftermarket wheels are so popular that there is a $3.2 billion dollar market for them, and a small part of this massive industry dedicates itself to Corvette wheels.

Buying Corvette aftermarket wheels isn't like buying wheels for just any old car. Afterall, you’re buying wheels for a legendary sports car! Not only do you need wheels that look good, but you also need them to perform.

To help you not get overwhelmed, we've created a list of the top seven Corvette wheels. (We've chosen them based on both build quality and looks.) So let's get started improving the look of your stock Corvette!

1. 946 EXT Gloss Black

These gloss black wheels are perfect for the C7 generation. They are a three piece forged wheel with a deep inset. You'll get a complete set with these wheels including two front, two back, lug nuts, locks, and center caps.

The entire wheels are a beautiful gloss black. Five split-spokes create the tough and modern look of this wheel.

Then around the outside are silver colored riveting. Around the center are holes for five lug nuts.

2. SR1 Performance Apex Series

If you are looking for performance, then these aluminum wheels are for you. What's even better is that you have three different color options: chrome, black and two black and chrome combos. You can also choose between chrome or black for your center caps and lug nuts.

They have an aggressive appearance with their multi-spoke design and the center cap features the SR1 logo. Your C5 or C6 Corvette will look stunning with this kind of bold look!

In addition, factory sensors will install seamlessly and work with these wheels.

You get a three-year warranty on the finish for your wheels and the structural integrity has a lifetime warranty.

3. WCC Forged EXT Series 3PC

You have your choice of black or chrome coloring for these C6 wheels and they are the deepest three-piece forged wheels on the market.

The chrome option has triple chrome plating. With this level of quality, you can be confident that your wheels will look great for years to come.

Both color options are five-spoke wheels with space for five lugs and around the outside of the spokes is a rivet detailing.

4. Cray Hawk Matte Black Wheels

These are the best wheels for owners who want a seamless installation onto their Corvette. (Cray exclusively manufactures wheels for Corvette owners.)

Because of Cray’s focus, their wheels work with the original OEM center caps and air sensors. The hawk design features a multiple spoke design with allowance for five lugs. These wheels allow for some adjustment as they come in 18, 19, and 20-inch sizes.

5. LG Motorsports Forged Wheels

If solid construction is a concern for you, then you'll love these one-piece forged wheels. Even though they are strong, they are still some of the lightest wheels on the market.

When compared to the stock C7 wheels, these front wheels are 3.9 pounds and the back wheels are 5.8 pounds lighter. That is a total weight savings of 19.4 pounds.

The LG Motorsports Forged wheels will also work with your OEM TPMS and lug nuts. Plus they are built when you order them! You may have to wait a couple of weeks, but you know your wheels are created specifically for you.

The wheels have a five split spoke design. Unlike other wheels on this list, the split spokes have a wide stance, giving these wheels a unique look. They also have the LG logo stamped onto the billet center cap and along the lip.

6. LG Motorsports GT2 Wheels

How about buying wheels for your Corvette that mirror the American Le Mans Series race car?

These wheels are made of aluminum and feature a multi-spoke design. Though if you look closely, it might seem that it's more of a seven split-spoke design.

Because a pressure cast method is used to forge these wheels, they have a much higher strength than standard wheels. You also don't have the high cost that comes with buying forged wheels.

If you decide to buy these wheels, take note that they are a half inch wider than your stock wheels on the C7. You should be able to use your stock tires though.

They only come in a dark grey color. You do have a choice in grey or machined lip.

7. Silver Machined Face Chrome Lip Wheel

Another wheel from Cray, these machined wheels are exclusive for Corvette owners. Just like the other Cray wheels you can use your OEM center cap and air sensors.

If you don't like the machined metal look, you have other colors options that include silver, gloss black and chrome. There are also three size options: 18, 19 and 20-inches.

With every set of wheels Cray manufactures, they ensure the highest quality with one piece designs and the lightest weight possible. Each set of wheels are hand made to order to exact specifications.

Wheel Buying Guide

There are some things to keep in mind when shopping for your next set of wheels. You have a high-performance sports car with attitude and you need wheels to match!

Make sure that above anything else, the wheels that you buy are high quality.

Size

If you are new to buying custom wheels, then the safest option is to stick to the sock size. Before you start shopping for tires, be sure to look up what size tires your specific model of Corvette has.

Corvette tires sizes have increased over the years. In the 80s and 90s, the wheels were 17 inches. By the late 90s and into the early 00s, wheel size grew to 19 inches. Today's C7 Corvettes have 20-inch wheels.

Keep in mind that this is only the size of the wheel. You also need to look at the width and offset.

Changing Size

You are not limited to the original OEM size wheels, though. You can change the size of your wheels to bigger or smaller.

While small size adjustments are ok, large changes will require you to make other adjustments to your Corvette. For example, too large and the tires will rub on the wheel well. Go too wide, and you change the handling of the car.

Color

When it comes to color, you are limited to some basic choices, including chrome, gloss black, matte black, machined silver, and grey. You may also find used wheels from specific models that are a color such as yellow from the official pace car.

If none of these colors sound appealing, you can always paint your wheels. If you do this, be sure to do the proper prep and paint, so they look good and stay looking good.

Style

When it comes to style, you need to start in one place: OEM or aftermarket. OEM wheels are going to be wheels that come from Chevy or a seller authorized to sell stock wheels.

Aftermarket wheels are going to give your car a custom look. This is the ideal choice if you are not happy with the look of the stock wheels.

When it comes to style, five-spoke wheels are one of the most popular. They tend to have a bold, solid look and are easy to care for. There is also a three-spoke design that will give your car a retro look

Multi-spoke wheels are the second most popular design. You will see anywhere from seven to twenty spokes. These wheels have greater structural strength.

The third most popular design is the split-spoke design, as you can probably tell from this list. You know these are different from the previous styles because there is a small gap in each of the spokes.

The final most popular design for Corvette wheels is a Y-spoke design. It is the design that is popular among industry experts. It has a sort of crossover look between a split-spoke and multi-spoke design.

Construction

The most common type of construction for wheels is cast aluminum. This makes for lightweight yet durable wheels. There are a few different methods for casting, and each has its pros and cons.

For the ultimate in wheels, you should choose a one-piece forged wheel. (This process creates the highest quality wheel.) Prepare to pay a high price for this quality, though.

Your third option is the multi-piece wheel. They have the greatest ability to customize the wheel to fit your specific needs. You tend to see this option more often in wheels that are larger than 17 inches.
