Are you tired of a tube and a filter being referred to as a "Cold air intake"? If so, you'll like our approach to designing and building air intakes. We start by designing the air box that really fits your car. It's much more than the typical "L" shape piece of sheetmetal you are used to seeing. Our box is designed to contour the surrounding components. This enables us to have a very large box and filter while maintaining a barrier between the filter and harmful engine and radiator heat.
The bottom of our air box is formed and cut for coupling to the stock air inlet hole. (see the pic of the installed air box with the filter removed) Additionally, we have a triangular inlet on the outboard side of the air box. Because of the location, it draws cooler air from the same area as the bottom opening. The result is a larger volume of cooler air when you need it. Black anodized aluminum brackets mount to existing locations on your vehicle. No modifications are required for installation. Our custom molded air box coupler attaches to the air box with 6 stainless steel 10-32 screws. On the inside of the box, it has a large 6" mounting flange to accept the huge air filter. The larger opening ensures you won't be starving your motor during acceleration. As the coupler passes through the air box wall, it transitions to 5" OD to accept our high gloss black silicone hump hose. The hump hose takes up the movement of the air tube. This design allows us to mount the airbox assembly solidly to maintain a good seal between our intake components while still having the ability to absorb motor rock. Most intakes simply cut an oversize hole for this. The other end of the hump hose accepts our custom molded air inlet tube which has a huge 5" OD inlet. The tube transitions down through its length allowing the air to gain velocity as it travels towards the throttle body. At the throttle body, we use a high gloss silicone hose that mounts our tube solidly so good alignment is maintained, even during motor rock.
From start to finish, we have designed and built this cold air intake system for the Dodge Challenger with all of the qualities to make it work at peak performance! Please compare our design and components to the competion and you'll see the differences. Dyno results have been very good with our intake. With a 5.7L Challenger RT motor, we picked up nearly 14 HP with gains in torque over most of the curve, and there's even more to be had for a 6.1L equipped Challenger SRT8. More importantly, when you install this air intake, you will feel the difference! One of our first units went on a car already equipped with a "tube and filter" air intake. The owner was pleasantly surprised at the gains of our intake as compared to the competition. Another prototype went on a stock 300C. The feedback was the same-noticable acceleration gains and an awesome sound. Several leading companies offer a metal wall with this same open area for clearance of hoses and wiring harnesses in this region. This happens to be the easiest route for your air filter to draw air. The air goes straight through the radiator, gets extremely hot, and then straight into your air filter! It's a seriously flawed design. Keep in mind, when the hood is open during chassis dyno testing, the filter can easily draw air from the top side, so you don't see this problem show up on the dyno, but your hood is closed when you're driving down the road! As you can see from our air box pics, our box is molded to clear all of the components and maintain a seal to your stock air inlet on the chassis. This is just one more area where we've spent the time and effort to make our intake superior to the competition. Please keep in mind that this air intake system is for 2005-2010 SRT8 and 5.7L RT Dodge Challenger models.
